February Kidsville at the Parthenon


Join Kidsville at the Parthenon each Saturday from 11 AM to 1 PM in February for socially distanced fun! Explore the current museum exhibits and pick up a take-home activity to continue exploring the day’s theme. Kyla or Nikki will be handing out activity kits in the Treasury.


February 6 - EQUITY & INCLUSIVITY: Come explore the Parthenon's exhibit about photographer, Harry Shepherd who created “Our Unsung Heroes,” a collage of photo vignettes capturing heroes and moments in African American History. Pick up a take-home kit to make your own hero badge to share with someone when they’re using their hero superpower.

February 12 - NUTRITION & FITNESS: Come celebrate Valentine’s Day as we learn about two Heroes of the Heart, Daniel Hale Williams, a surgeon that performed the first successful open heart surgery in 1893 and Olympic Gold Medalist Wilma Rudolph, an example of heart-healthy fitness and perseverance. Pick up a take-home kit to make a heart picture frame to decorate and share a picture with a hero of your own heart.

*CANCELLED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER* February 20 - LITERACY: Come celebrate the featured Storybook Walk book, The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. Explore how a photograph and the wonder of snow inspired the book with an unexpected hero.. Pick up a take-home kit to sew a pocket like Peter’s snow-filled pocket in the book.

February 27 - ART & MUSIC: As a part of the Parthenon’s exhibit of photographer, Harry Shepherd, who shared the stories of heroes in African American History, come explore the book, Ellington Was Not a Street by Ntozake Shange, a poem that features heroes of music in African American history. Don't forget to pick up a take-home kit to make a pretend record album with songs about your heroes.
